Basic Universal Income Combined With the Internet of Things Means Never Getting to Poop in Peace (Plus Other Inconveniences)

The other day the potential to use the Internet of Things to bring people down a peg and reflect on their abilities was explored. The impending ‘threat’ to employment that is coming from increasingly automated workplaces means that basic universal income could become a reality. Could the Internet of Things also be used to monitor and control people who have access to a basic universal income? Do you think that governments that initiate a universal income system have a right to know what people are consuming?

Could Surveillance Technology Track People’s Moods to Help You Avoid Angry Individuals?

Could this system be more trouble than it’s worth? Such technology could help people avoid volatile individuals, but it could also be used as a tool for people searching for a fight.

And could tech that can ‘read your feelings’ and let people know that you could be trouble, really know the context of your bad mood? Wouldn’t it be terrible to be publicly labelled a trouble maker just because you were having one off day? That’s like being refused an opportunity because of a tweet you made when you were drunk eight years ago!

What do you think, are advanced surveillance systems useful or dangerous?
